This study investigated the institutional and state-level factors that influence access to dual enrollment (DE) opportunities across the United States. The study explores how characteristics such as sector, size, selectivity, and student demographics relate to DE access, and how various state policy environments either support or constrain postsecondary institutions’ participation in DE programs.
The researchers analyzed data from approximately 3,800 degree-granting institutions, drawing on the 2016–17 Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and the Education Commission of the States (ECS) Dual Enrollment Policy Inventory. Using logistic regression models, they assessed the likelihood of institutions offering DE and the number of students enrolled in these programs.
