The focus of many dual enrollment programs is on educational access and student success. In order to meet this goal for students traditionally underrepresented in higher education, institutions need to understand the students they serve. This includes understanding the culture of the community and institution to provide impactful programming and appropriate student support, both inside and outside the classroom. This presentation will explore the importance of cultural competency in dual enrollment program planning conversations. We will discuss strategic planning concepts and how cultural understanding can help institutions meet student and community needs.
