The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) is proud to announce the release of a new publication, Online, On Purpose: A Framework for Building Impactful Dual Enrollment Experiences Through Online College Courses. As the national leader in ensuring quality dual and concurrent enrollment programs, NACEP developed this resource to help educators design and deliver high-impact online dual enrollment opportunities for high school students.
With the rapid growth of online college course offerings, especially in dual enrollment settings, NACEP’s new framework addresses a critical need: ensuring that these courses are not only accessible, but intentional, supportive, and successful. Far too often, students are handed logins without the guidance and structure necessary for success-putting both their academic confidence and future aspirations at risk.
“Dual enrollment is a student’s first step into college. We have one chance to get it right,” said Amy Williams, Executive Director of NACEP. “Online, On Purpose provides a clear roadmap for institutions and school districts to work together and build online dual enrollment experiences that are rigorous, equitable, and rooted in student success.”
The framework outlines five essential elements for program quality:
- Provider: Work with legitimate, high-quality institutions that ensure credit transfer and academic integrity.
- Partnership: Establish proactive, clearly defined relationships between K-12 and higher education partners.
- Model: Choose instructional delivery models that align with student needs, from synchronous instruction to hybrid formats.
- Support: Provide academic and non-academic support to help students stay engaged and succeed.
- Engagement: Prioritize communication and onboarding for both students and their families.
Drawing from national standards, institutional best practices, and contributions from educators and researchers across the country, Online, On Purpose is a timely and practical guide for anyone looking to elevate the quality of online dual enrollment.
