SUMMARY:Department Structures. How to Structure Concurrent Enrollment Departments to Support the Student Journey (Public Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Date: May 17; 1:00 pm EST \nPresenters: \n\nRaymond Chard- Interim Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs/Director of High School Programs\, Aims Community College;\nSarah Stashkiw – Director\, P-20 Educational Partnerships\, College of Lake County\n\nDescription: State to state\, college to college\, each concurrent enrollment program looks a little different. From staffing to roles and responsibilities\, there seems to be little continuity across programs. However\, the challenges we all face seem to be similar across the board. During this webinar\, you will hear from 2 concurrent enrollment programs in 2 different states on how they have structured their teams to support students through their concurrent enrollment journey. You will learn how they leverage other departments across their college and have advocated for increasing the number of staff supporting concurrent enrollment students. As we walk through the student’s journey in concurrent enrollment from application to graduation\, you will learn more about how two colleges have organized their concurrent enrollment offices\, what positions are on their staff\, and the strategic partnerships they have created. \n \n \n Learn More

SUMMARY:OPEN EDUCATION RESOURCES: A DUAL ENROLLMENT EQUITY STRATEGY
DESCRIPTION:Public Webinar \nAre you eager to increase equitable access and participation in your program? Join us for our first NACEP PEP Talk and explore Open Educational Resources as Program Equity Practice (PEP). \nWhat are NACEP PEP Talks? \nPEP Talks are a field-focused resource series designed for practitioners interested in advancing equity in their programs. PEP Talks break equity work into smaller\, bite-size initiatives to support increasing equitable access and participation in dual and concurrent enrollment. Each PEP Talk is designed with the practitioner in mind and includes a summary of the topic\, examples from the field\, links to resources\, and actionable steps to get started. \nOER as a Program Equity Practice \nJoin authors Tanya Grosz (Open Education Network) and Amy Williams (NACEP) to discuss ways to increase equity by removing the financial barrier for textbook cost through Open Educational Resources (OER). Open educational resources are teaching\, learning\, and research materials that are either in the public domain or licensed in a manner that provides everyone with free and perpetual permission to engage in the “5R activities\,” as defined by Creative Commons: retain\, remix\, revise\, reuse\, and redistribute the resources. OER are available to learners immediately for free\, can be retained forever\, and can be modified to be made more inclusive and culturally relevant and have been touted as an equity-focused solution to textbook costs in higher education.  This makes OER a natural fit for dual and concurrent enrollment as well. This session will make the case for OER as a program equity strategy and provide attendees with actionable steps for using OER to decrease costs for students\, districts\, and colleges. \nView PEP Talk \n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:#WWR: Usher of Gatekeeper: Removing Barriers to Student Success
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Kayla Westra \nOriginal Date: November 17th\, 2021 \nMost people who are involved with concurrent/dual enrollment are focused on helping students access college coursework. In many cases\, these same people are also advocates for equity and inclusion. In reality\, however\, policies and practices\, often long-ingrained at institutions\, may be hampering efforts for institutions to truly provide access in equitable ways. The power of connections and intentional efforts in the classroom and at the institution can make a significant impact on students in dual enrollment programs. This session focuses on specific strategies for closing gaps in equity\, opportunity\, and achievement in dual enrollment programs. Join us to hear ideas on how administrators\, counselors\, teachers\, and parent liaisons help expand dual credit options to underrepresented students. In this session\, we will review several common issues that may be unintentionally hampering your students and ultimately\, their access and success in dual enrollment courses. Participants will leave with specific strategies on how to make specific and significant changes that will positively impact students. \n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:#WWR: OER in Dual and Concurrent Enrollment Programs: Current Practice and Best Practice
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday Webinar Rewind (#WWR) is a new spin on our Wednesday Webinars where we periodically take time to reflect on topics previously presented. WWR are recorded webinars with valuable and relevant information and are meant to highlight trends in the field. Whether you are a new member or have been with us for a while\, we invite you to reignite the past to reconnect to the future. \n#WWR July 20th – Presented May 26th 2021 \nTitle: OER in Dual and Concurrent Enrollment Programs: Current Practice and Best Practice\nPresenter: Jenny Parks & Jennifer Zinth\nOpen educational resources\, or OERs\, are openly licensed digital and other resources including college textbooks\, that are often available at little to no cost. In the present confluence of an economic downturn\, remote instruction\, and a clear need for more equitable student participation in dual and concurrent enrollment offerings\, OERs present a potential game-changer to ensure the availability of quality digital textbooks at little to no cost to families\, districts or postsecondary institutions. This webinar will present early findings from a current study funded by the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) and the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) to examine current use of OERs in dual and concurrent enrollment courses\, and best practices and lessons learned from states and dual enrollment partnerships pioneering these efforts. \n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:“I Think You’re on Mute”: Providing Accessible CE Courses for All Students Using Live Video Technology
DESCRIPTION:Member-Only Webinar \nLimited access to concurrent enrollment (CE) courses has historically prevented Utah rural high school students from earning college credits at the same rate as their non-rural peers. Factors such as remote geographic locations far from college campuses\, rural schools’ lack of access to qualified teachers\, and COVID contributed to this problem. Snow College delivers CE courses using live interactive video conferencing technology to address this disparity. This session will outline this innovative program and discuss how your program can provide students access to CE courses in any location. \n \n View Recording
