SUMMARY:(Member-Only) Usher or a Gatekeeper: Removing Barriers to Student Success
DESCRIPTION:Most people who are involved with concurrent/dual enrollment are focused on helping students access college coursework. In many cases\, these same people are also advocates for equity and inclusion. In reality\, however\, policies and practices\, often long-ingrained at institutions\, may be hampering efforts for institutions to truly provide access in equitable ways. The power of connections and intentional efforts in the classroom and at the institution can make a significant impact on students in dual enrollment programs. This session focuses on specific strategies for closing gaps in equity\, opportunity\, and achievement in dual enrollment programs. Join us to hear ideas on how administrators\, counselors\, teachers\, and parent liaisons help expand dual credit options to underrepresented students. In this session\, we will review several common issues that may be unintentionally hampering your students and ultimately\, their access and success in dual enrollment courses. Participants will leave with specific strategies on how to make specific and significant changes that will positively impact students. \n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:Strengthening the Dual Enrollment Teacher Pipeline: Building the Institutional\, State\, and National Agenda
DESCRIPTION:NACEP Virtual Workshop – Strengthening the Dual Enrollment Teacher Pipeline: Building the Institutional\, State\, and National Agenda\nNovember 16\, 2021 | 1-3 pm ET\nAccess to a more robust\, diverse\, and inclusive pool of qualified instructors is essential to driving more equitable access to and engagement in college courses for high school students. This workshop explores the problems and potential solutions for improving the concurrent enrollment teacher pipeline to improve equity outcomes for students.\nDuring the 2021 summer the Midwestern Higher Education Compact\, the College in High School Alliance\, and NACEP led a series of working group sessions to unpack the complex challenges and opportunities inherent in the work to expand the pool of instructors qualified to teach concurrent enrollment. The sessions uncovered several approaches used by states and institutions ranging from pragmatic reconfigurations of graduate programs to deep systemic changes to educator preparation and teacher professional development.\nCHSA will soon release a new national resource\, authored by dual enrollment policy expert Jennifer Zinth\, on the current state of the dual enrollment teacher pipeline\, its challenges\, and a set of possible action steps for institutions\, states\, and national advocates on where the discussion about this issue should go from here. Join NACEP\, MHEC\, CHSA and Jennifer Zinth for a workshop designed to unpack the action agenda and develop a plan – whether it’s for your institution\, state\, or the nation at large – about where we go from here to support expanding the number of instructors credentialed to teach concurrent enrollment courses.\nRegister today as the space is limited to 30 in this virtual workshop.

SUMMARY:Helping Our Partners Tell Their Concurrent Enrollment Story
DESCRIPTION:Member-Only\nPresenters:\nRaymond Chard\, Director of High School Programs\, Aims Community College\, Colorado\nAimee Rogers\, Concurrent Enrollment Instructor Coordinator\, Aims Community College\, Colorado\nAims Community College is located in Greeley Colorado\, about an hour north of the Denver metro area. Aims Community College is partnered with over 50 high schools and has over 3\,000 participating concurrent enrollment students. Our concurrent enrollment offerings include traditional concurrent enrollment experiences\, certificate-based pathways\, fully integrated on-campus experiences\, early colleges\, and pathways in technology early college (PTECH) programs. \nWith our large concurrent enrollment footprint\, it became clear that not only were we struggling as a college to tell our concurrent enrollment story but our partners were as well. As we reflected on this we decided to create School Profile Sheets for each of our schools. The intention of this massive data project was to equip our partner high schools with the data they needed to tell their story. The outcome was far more impactful. During this session\, we hope to share our journey to creating our School Profiles. How we leveraged internal and external partners. All of the intended and unintended impacts. \n \n View Recordings

SUMMARY:OER in Dual and Concurrent Enrollment Programs: Current Practice and Best Practice
DESCRIPTION:Open educational resources\, or OERs\, are openly licensed digital and other resources including college textbooks\, that are often available at little to no cost. In the present confluence of an economic downturn\, remote instruction\, and a clear need for more equitable student participation in dual and concurrent enrollment offerings\, OERs present a potential game-changer to ensure the availability of quality digital textbooks at little to no cost to families\, districts or postsecondary institutions. This webinar will present early findings from a current study funded by the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) and the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) to examine current use of OERs in dual and concurrent enrollment courses\, and best practices and lessons learned from states and dual enrollment partnerships pioneering these efforts.\n  \n View Recording

SUMMARY:Equity in Focus: State Reporting on Concurrent and Dual Enrollment
DESCRIPTION:Members-Only Webinar\nPresented by: \nAmy Hubbard- Executive Director\, Early College\, University of Maine System\nTari Lambert- Director\, Transfer Indiana\nMichael Vente- Director of Research\, Colorado Department of Higher Education \nDual and concurrent enrollment continues to grow in popularity and reach across the nation. Despite this\, nationally there is a lack of timely\, accurate\, and functional disaggregated data on student participation and outcomes. This missed opportunity to tell the national story of programs creates lingering questions about access\, impact\, and equity in these critical programs. Several states have worked to fill this void by establishing consistent state-level reporting.\nJoin us to hear from panelists from three states as they discuss how their data aids them in making the case for these programs and helps to support and advance these programs as key components of statewide educational initiatives.\n Register Now

SUMMARY:Initial Course-Specific Training For Concurrent Enrollment Instructors: Pandemic Pivots to New Program Practice
DESCRIPTION:At the heart of the NACEP Accreditation Standards is a belief that college faculty play an integral role in ensuring parity in concurrent enrollment course content\, assessments\, and expectations. NACEP’s 16 standards in six categories serve to ensure the post-secondary institution offers the same college course in the high school as is offered on the campus and provides sufficient academic and program oversight to ensure course integrity. Integral to this process are the Faculty Standards which address the selection\, preparation\, and support of Concurrent Enrollment Instructors (CEIs). \nOnboarding new CEIs through “course-specific training” is central to NACEP’s F2 Faculty Standard\, which focuses on initial instructor training. This approach orients CEIs to the important building blocks of the course they are preparing to teach and provides a foundation for the student learning and achievement that will take place in the classroom. It also serves as a first step in establishing a collaborative\, ongoing partnership between the CEI and the Faculty Liaison (FL). \nSo\, how should FLs go about ensuring they provide new CEI’s with sufficient training on all the aspects of the course to be taught\, while also building rapport? This brief provides a blueprint and resources to answer that question with the goal of helping FLs create course-specific training that is useful\, meaningful\, and supportive. \n Recording Available for Members Here

SUMMARY:Dual Enrollment in Perkins V State Plans
DESCRIPTION:Historically\, many states and institutions have leveraged funds from the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act to help support efforts to ensure equitable early access to college courses for high school students. The most recent reauthorization in 2018 (known as Perkins V) offered states new flexibility to increase their investment in dual and concurrent enrollment as an important part of a high-quality program of study. Do expanded provisions and new flexibilities increase states’ utilization of this critical student success strategy?\nJoin Kate Kramer\, Deputy Executive Director at Advance CTE\, and Amy Williams\, NACEP’s Executive Director\, to explore findings from the recently released Advance CTE resource “The State of Career Technical Education: An Analysis of States’ Perkins V Priorities.”\n Register and View Recording Now
