SUMMARY:#WWR: Usher of Gatekeeper: Removing Barriers to Student Success
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Kayla Westra \nOriginal Date: November 17th\, 2021 \nMost people who are involved with concurrent/dual enrollment are focused on helping students access college coursework. In many cases\, these same people are also advocates for equity and inclusion. In reality\, however\, policies and practices\, often long-ingrained at institutions\, may be hampering efforts for institutions to truly provide access in equitable ways. The power of connections and intentional efforts in the classroom and at the institution can make a significant impact on students in dual enrollment programs. This session focuses on specific strategies for closing gaps in equity\, opportunity\, and achievement in dual enrollment programs. Join us to hear ideas on how administrators\, counselors\, teachers\, and parent liaisons help expand dual credit options to underrepresented students. In this session\, we will review several common issues that may be unintentionally hampering your students and ultimately\, their access and success in dual enrollment courses. Participants will leave with specific strategies on how to make specific and significant changes that will positively impact students. \n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:#WWR: OER in Dual and Concurrent Enrollment Programs: Current Practice and Best Practice
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday Webinar Rewind (#WWR) is a new spin on our Wednesday Webinars where we periodically take time to reflect on topics previously presented. WWR are recorded webinars with valuable and relevant information and are meant to highlight trends in the field. Whether you are a new member or have been with us for a while\, we invite you to reignite the past to reconnect to the future. \n#WWR July 20th – Presented May 26th 2021 \nTitle: OER in Dual and Concurrent Enrollment Programs: Current Practice and Best Practice\nPresenter: Jenny Parks & Jennifer Zinth\nOpen educational resources\, or OERs\, are openly licensed digital and other resources including college textbooks\, that are often available at little to no cost. In the present confluence of an economic downturn\, remote instruction\, and a clear need for more equitable student participation in dual and concurrent enrollment offerings\, OERs present a potential game-changer to ensure the availability of quality digital textbooks at little to no cost to families\, districts or postsecondary institutions. This webinar will present early findings from a current study funded by the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) and the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) to examine current use of OERs in dual and concurrent enrollment courses\, and best practices and lessons learned from states and dual enrollment partnerships pioneering these efforts. \n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:“I Think You’re on Mute”: Providing Accessible CE Courses for All Students Using Live Video Technology
DESCRIPTION:Member-Only Webinar \nLimited access to concurrent enrollment (CE) courses has historically prevented Utah rural high school students from earning college credits at the same rate as their non-rural peers. Factors such as remote geographic locations far from college campuses\, rural schools’ lack of access to qualified teachers\, and COVID contributed to this problem. Snow College delivers CE courses using live interactive video conferencing technology to address this disparity. This session will outline this innovative program and discuss how your program can provide students access to CE courses in any location. \n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:BUILDING A CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT TEACHER PIPELINE: OPPORTUNITIES\, CHALLENGES\, AND LESSONS
DESCRIPTION:Public Webinar Presented By: \n\nAmy Williams\, Executive Director\, NACEP\nAlex Perry\, Policy Advisor\, Foresight Law + Policy\nJenny Parks\, Vice President\, Midwestern Higher Education Compact\nJennifer Zinth\, Founder\, Zinth Consulting LLC\n\nConcurrent enrollment programs are popular\, prevalent\, and impactful. Yet\, recent analyses of access and participation data reveal troubling equity gaps nationwide. As states and institutions work to close these gaps by increasing access\, a critical factor is inhibiting program growth\, the availability of high school teachers with the coursework and experience needed to meet partner colleges’ criteria to teach college courses.  In recent years a series of clarifications and changes to concurrent enrollment teacher credentialing requirements\, converging with an increased focus on concurrent enrollment by policy and practice leaders\, has generated significant state and local interest in growing the number of high school teachers credentialed to teach concurrent enrollment courses. \nOur panel will provide an overview of a recently released resource; Building a Concurrent Enrollment Teacher Pipeline: Opportunities\, Challenges\, and Lessons which outlines state and institutional approaches that are expanding the pool of qualified concurrent enrollment instructors. The panel will also discuss the big picture issues at play for expanding access and participation and the long-term solutions that could be difference-makers for connecting K12 and higher education. \n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:Virtual Program Evaluation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Date: March 8th\, 2022\nTime: 11-2 pm EST\nRegistration details: Registration is free for NACEP members and is limited to 50 participants\, first come first served.\nWhat do you know about your program and how do you know it? Researchers Jason Taylor (University of Utah) and Eric Grebing (SERVE UNC-Greensboro) join forces with Accreditation Commissioners Mike Beam\, Karen Landry\, and Diana Johnson to help you understand how collecting\, analyzing\, and using data can help you to understand the effectiveness and efficiency of your program.\nAs the only national set of quality standards applicable to concurrent enrollment partnerships and college provided faculty model programs\, NACEP Standards are measurable criteria that address quality in concurrent enrollment and college provided faculty model programs. At the heart of NACEP Accreditation is continuous programmatic improvement. Continuous improvement is a system of evaluation that requires assessment\, planning\, implementation\, and evaluation.\nThis 3-hour workshop is designed for dual and concurrent enrollment practitioners eager to answer questions about their programs through data\, analysis\, and research. This interactive\, hands-on workshop includes a discussion of dual and concurrent enrollment research trends\, an introduction to the NACEP Evaluation Standards and Program Evaluation Guide\, and a tour of the online Evaluation Toolkit.  Breakout sessions led by the panelists are designed to provide insights on the accreditation process and give attendees the opportunity to brainstorm evaluation topics\, identify online resources\, develop a plan\, and execute. Whether you are preparing for accreditation\, re-accreditation\, or are just eager to use data to examine program impact\, you will find information and inspiration to help you confidently answer the question: What do you know about your program and how do you know it? \n Registration is Full

SUMMARY:Leveraging Cultural Competency in Dual Enrollment Program Planning
DESCRIPTION:Public Webinar \nPresented by: \nsarah Brown\, Program Manager\, Office of Dual Enrollment\, Marshall University \nDianne Barker\, Director of State Engagement\, NACEP \nThe focus of many dual enrollment programs is on educational access and student success. In order to meet this goal for students traditionally underrepresented in higher education\, institutions need to understand the students they serve. This includes understanding the culture of the community and institution to provide impactful programming and appropriate student support\, both inside and outside the classroom. This presentation will explore the importance of cultural competency in dual enrollment program planning conversations. We will discuss strategic planning concepts and how cultural understanding can help institutions meet student and community needs. \n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:From “Random Acts” and “Programs of Privilege” to Dual Enrollment Equity Pathways
DESCRIPTION:Public Webinar \nPresenters:\nJohn Fink\, Senior Research Associate\, Community College Research Center at Teachers College – Columbia University\nDavis Jenkins\, Senior Research Scholar\, Community College Research Center at Teachers College – Columbia University \nSobia Khan\, Dean for Academic Success\, San Antonio College \nResearch on dual credit highlights its potential for expanding access to college and career opportunity for underserved students. And yet\, common references to dual credit as ‘programs of privilege’ or ‘random acts of dual credit’ indicate that in many communities these programs have yet to fully realize their potential to advance educational equity. One emerging approach to better realizing this potential is by aligning dual enrollment programs to “guided pathway” (GP) student success reforms which are being implemented by more than 400 colleges and 16 state systems nationally. This webinar will describe how colleges and K-12 schools can work together expand opportunity for their students and build enrollments by extending GP practices to dual credit students. Sobia Khan from the award-winning San Antonio College and the Alamo College District will provide expert guidance on how build guided pathways to success on a large scale in your community. \n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:COLLEGE IN HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS & COVID-19: Two Years of Challenge and Change
DESCRIPTION:Public Webinar \nPresenters: Alex Perry\, Policy Advisor Foresight Law + Policy \nThe COVID-19 pandemic has had fundamental and transformative impacts across the entire education system. Many of those impacts will take years to fully understand. The College in High School Alliance (CHSA) and NACEP have been seeking to understand the impact of the pandemic on college in high school programs over the last year and a half\, both positive and negative. As we make progress towards emerging from the immediate health crisis\, there is a general recognition that – just as there have been big changes in K-12 and higher education generally -there have been changes for college in high school programs too.\nThis session will cover some of the lessons learned in the first two years of the pandemic and share a look ahead to discuss the pragmatic changes that may have post-pandemic staying power.\n  \n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:(Member-Only) Usher or a Gatekeeper: Removing Barriers to Student Success
DESCRIPTION:Most people who are involved with concurrent/dual enrollment are focused on helping students access college coursework.

SUMMARY:Strengthening the Dual Enrollment Teacher Pipeline: Building the Institutional\, State\, and National Agenda
DESCRIPTION:NACEP Virtual Workshop – Strengthening the Dual Enrollment Teacher Pipeline: Building the Institutional\, State\, and National Agenda\nNovember 16\, 2021 | 1-3 pm ET\nAccess to a more robust\, diverse\, and inclusive pool of qualified instructors is essential to driving more equitable access to and engagement in college courses for high school students. This workshop explores the problems and potential solutions for improving the concurrent enrollment teacher pipeline to improve equity outcomes for students.\nDuring the 2021 summer the Midwestern Higher Education Compact\, the College in High School Alliance\, and NACEP led a series of working group sessions to unpack the complex challenges and opportunities inherent in the work to expand the pool of instructors qualified to teach concurrent enrollment. The sessions uncovered several approaches used by states and institutions ranging from pragmatic reconfigurations of graduate programs to deep systemic changes to educator preparation and teacher professional development.\nCHSA will soon release a new national resource\, authored by dual enrollment policy expert Jennifer Zinth\, on the current state of the dual enrollment teacher pipeline\, its challenges\, and a set of possible action steps for institutions\, states\, and national advocates on where the discussion about this issue should go from here. Join NACEP\, MHEC\, CHSA and Jennifer Zinth for a workshop designed to unpack the action agenda and develop a plan – whether it’s for your institution\, state\, or the nation at large – about where we go from here to support expanding the number of instructors credentialed to teach concurrent enrollment courses.\nRegister today as the space is limited to 30 in this virtual workshop.

SUMMARY:Helping Our Partners Tell Their Concurrent Enrollment Story
DESCRIPTION:Member-Only\nPresenters:\nRaymond Chard\, Director of High School Programs\, Aims Community College\, Colorado\nAimee Rogers\, Concurrent Enrollment Instructor Coordinator\, Aims Community College\, Colorado\nAims Community College is located in Greeley Colorado\, about an hour north of the Denver metro area. Aims Community College is partnered with over 50 high schools and has over 3\,000 participating concurrent enrollment students. Our concurrent enrollment offerings include traditional concurrent enrollment experiences\, certificate-based pathways\, fully integrated on-campus experiences\, early colleges\, and pathways in technology early college (PTECH) programs. \nWith our large concurrent enrollment footprint\, it became clear that not only were we struggling as a college to tell our concurrent enrollment story but our partners were as well. As we reflected on this we decided to create School Profile Sheets for each of our schools. The intention of this massive data project was to equip our partner high schools with the data they needed to tell their story. The outcome was far more impactful. During this session\, we hope to share our journey to creating our School Profiles. How we leveraged internal and external partners. All of the intended and unintended impacts. \n \n View Recordings
