SUMMARY:Surveying the Student Experience: What Are Students Telling Us About the Dual Enrollment Experience?
DESCRIPTION:Time: 1:00 pm EST \nDescription: \nResearch on dual enrollment exists-such as that focused on state policy and participation rates-but what is missing from the equation is information about what students experience while they are dually enrolled. To understand how to ensure better access and promote positive outcomes for all students in dual enrollment programs\, community colleges need to understand the dual enrollment experience from the perspective of students themselves. To this end\, CCCSE\, with assistance from an advisory panel of experts\, developed the Dual Enrollment Survey of Student Engagement (DESSE) to help college leaders learn from these students. Almost 4\,500 students responded to the fall 2022 DESSE pilot administration. Join CCCSE Executive Director Linda García as she highlights findings from the pilot administration and describes what CCCSE learned from dually enrolled student respondents in the areas of getting started\, aspirations\, support services\, and teaching and learning.  \nPresenter: \n\nDr. Linda García is the Executive Director of the Center for Community College Student\nEngagement (CCCSE) at The University of Texas at Austin. CCCSE delivers “aha” moments about the student experience to community college presidents\, faculty\, staff\, and policymakers. Linda’s experience includes student development\, instructional support\, grant writing\, and teaching. Linda served as a coach for the American Association of Community Colleges’ Pathways 2.0 and continues in this same role for the Texas Pathways Project.\n\n \n View Recording

SUMMARY:DEEP Partnerships: How K12 and College Leaders in one Texas Community are Implementing a Shared Vision to Broaden the Benefits of Dual Enrollment
DESCRIPTION:Over the past decade\, leaders at Lee College and Goose Creek ISD in Baytown\, Texas have developed a strong dual enrollment partnership with nearly a third of high school graduates taking dual credit and half returning to Lee College after HS. The Lee/Goose Creek partnership has prioritized broadening college access and ensuring all students leave high school on a path that will enable them to earn family-sustain wages. As a partnership they have implemented various strategies to support this on a large scale\, including shared advising\, multiple measures placement\, support for teacher credentialing\, and dual credit embedded into high school career academies and CTE programs of study. In this webinar\, attendees will hear directly from Lee/Goose Creek leaders how they’ve developed an effective partnership\, as well as how their work exemplifies emerging findings from the Community College Research Center at Columbia University in studying how college and K12 partnership are extending ‘guided pathways’ reforms to high school to broaden the benefits of dual enrollment. \n \n Watch Now
