2016 National Conference Archives

On October 16, the pre-conference featured the sold-out Concurrent Enrollment 101 that focused on the nuts and bolts of running a concurrent enrollment program. The State Policy workshop featured opportunities for individuals who are engaged in setting and implementing statewide policy to gain a deeper understanding of the successes and challenges that colleagues have experienced across the country. The Accreditation Institute offered strategies for implementing NACEP's national standards that enhance the quality of concurrent enrollment programs. The Outdoor Conversations workshop was both physical and intellectual as participants hiked over the Big Four Bridge and walked along the Louisville Waterfront Park while holding a facilitated conversation that included creative problem solving, and program-to-program networking.

On October 17-18, 2016, over 770 educational leaders from almost every state in the nation convened in Louisville, Kentucky to participate in NACEP's 2016 National Conference. The conference was hosted by the Kentucky Technical and Community College System. Over 60 breakout sessions focused on all aspects of concurrent and dual enrollment. The site visit this year went to Central High School, a school with a very rich history and that includes famous alumni including boxing great Muhammad Ali. The school is running 10 magnets in one building and has a very successful relationship with the University of Louisville. Participants were also there to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the new Makerspace to encourage more female and minority students to pursue engineering and science studies.

After the national conference, NACEP held the inaugural convening of the 44 colleges and universities selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Education's Dual Enrollment Pell Experimental Sites initiative, which was held at the University of Louisville. Deputy Undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Education Dr. Kim Hunter Reed addressed the participants during lunch at the Speed Museum. This event was organized in partnership with ACT and the U.S. Department of Education.
