NACEP Webbytes: A Journey Through Institutional Change

NACEP Webbytes is a new series bringing you interesting topics in 30 minutes or less. This webbyte features Houston Community College (HCC).
HCC has undergone a total transformation institutionally over the last two years. As part of this change, HCC’s dual credit program has also been transformed. Moving from operating as five separate programs from within the institution with very limited staffing, the program now has a centralized structure, 150% increase in staffing, and standardized processes. Prior to this transformation, HCC’s relationships with the six ISD partners in our service area were suffering. Over the last two years, these relationships have been turned around to be positive, trusting, collaborative relationships with HCC and our partners working together to improve access for high school students. This has resulted in a 44% increase in Fall 2016 enrollment compared to Fall 2015 enrollment, and a 30% increase in Spring 2017 enrollment compared to Spring 2016 enrollment. HCC has utilized for standards of operation which have been employed in our relationship development: Responsibility, Personal Engagement, Communication Standards and Reliability. This webbyte will share how HCC has been restructured, the new operational procedures, how ISD relationships have grown, and how HCC will address SACS and the issue of rigor.
