Distinguishing Features:

  • CITS students have the status of UMD students, and are given the same access to UMD resources as on-campus students: e-mail accounts, internet access, ID cards, library facilities, online databases, e-portfolio accounts, and special student rates for events.
  • CITS teachers have the status of UMD teaching specialists, and have access to faculty resources including e-mail, the Internet, library resources, e-portfolio accounts, online class rosters and web grading.
  • All classes are encouraged to visit campus at least once a term, at which time they receive customized training in using UMD resources, meet with their CITS faculty mentor, join the on-campus students in the dining center, and often attend an on-campus class session.
  • Content-specific professional development opportunities for CITS teachers are provided each year, along with summer orientation sessions with hands-on training on the latest faculty and technology resources.
  • A UMD CITS teacher listserv helps mentors and teachers communicate regarding upcoming sessions, special events, new policies and procedures, and topics of general concern.
  • By Minnesota law, students do not pay for taking concurrent enrollment classes. School districts negotiate directly with the CITS program for the payment of course fees.
